Recipes for Mindfulness

Richard Moniz has edited a book along with Madeleine Charney and Jenny Colvin "Recipes for Mindfulness: Supporting Resilience and Community Engagement."  This writing will feature practical mindful applications being used by a variety of libraries.

SCLE/SELA Conference Workshop 

We will be presenting a pre-conference workshop "Addressing Dysfunction and Incorporating Self-Care for Library Staff" at the SCLA/SELA Conference in Greenville, SC, Oct. 31st from 9-12 noon. This 5-week eCourse "Solutions for Challenging Workplace Relationships" addresses some of the thorniest problems that library staff may face such as lack of civility, bullying, mobbing, dysfunctional culture, emotional intelligence shortcomings, and challenges associated with conflict management. Moniz Secures New Position

Congratulations to Dr. Richard Moniz who has accepted the position as Head Librarian at Horry-Georgetown Technical College in Conway, South Carolina.  Richard will begin there in September.

We have been invited to speak at the SCLA/SELA Library Conference at their first general session November 1, 2018. We will highlight key points and lessons learned from our collaborative journey writing multiple library books and journal articles.

SCLA/SELA Library Conference Workshop

We will be conducting a 3 hour workshop "Addressing Dysfunction and Incorporating Self-Care for Library Staff" at the SCLA/SELA Library Conference October 31, 2018 at the Hilton Greenville, South Carolina. Topics from our book The Dysfunctional Library such as workplace incivility, toxic behaviors, conflict, and weak leadership will be covered followed by mindful concepts for librarians taken from our book The Mindful Librarian.

Staff Development Workshop at UNCC

Save the date and plan to join us at the UNCC Library's Halton Room on May 23rd 2-4 p.m. for a library staff development workshop on The Dysfunctional Library.  We will explore concepts of workplace dysfunction and discuss possible solutions.  Topics include toxic behaviors, ineffective collaboration, organizational culture, poor communication, and weak leadership.

Journal of Library Administration Publication 

“Incivility and Dysfunction in the Library Workplace: Perceptions and Feedback from the Field," co-authored by Jo Henry, Joe Eshleman, Rebecca Croxton, and Richard Moniz is now available. The article highlights data on incivility in the library workplace from the feedback of 4,168 library employees through a self-reporting survey instrument designed by the authors with the help of the American Library Association.
